Sports Vision FAQs

Sports Vision Eye Exam

Vision exams are an important tool to help improve your vision, maintain your overall health, and improve your quality of life if you struggle with vision disorders. Vision exams are recommended for people to have at least one a year. However, some special populations should consider getting an eye exam as soon as possible. These include athletes that can get an eye exam done with the help of an optometrist.

.

These eye exams for athletes are known as sports vision exams. They help determine errors in the eye for athletes, improve their hand-eye coordination, and are a great tool that can improve performance out on the field. At Eyecare Professionals, we're here to help members of the Hazen, ND, Washburn, ND, and Mandan, ND, community get the help they need to improve their vision and overall well-being.

What Is a Sports Vision Eye Exam?

An optometrist on our team will determine whether you need an eye exam conducted every year or every two years. However, if you play sports, an eye exam is important to obtain to determine if you need glasses or contact lenses to correct your vision.

These types of eye exams consist of testing to determine how much your vision is affected by eye disorders. For instance, if it's determined you suffer from a refractive error, such as astigmatism, an optometrist at our practice can determine what type of treatment is best for you during an eye exam.

These exams consist of vision testing, imaging testing to take a deep look at the inside of your eye and testing of your eye pressure.

Benefits of a Sports Eye Exam

During your eye exam, an optometrist on our team can prescribe the proper treatment to:

  • Help you see better
  • Improve your coordination
  • Be able to improve your sports skills
  • Fix your vision permanently through eye surgery

An optometrist at our practice can also help you find the right glasses you can wear on the field. These include wrap-around eyeglasses, contact lenses, or transitional glasses to protect your eyes from harmful ultraviolet radiation from the sun.

These are just some of the many benefits of having a sports vision eye exam done at least once a year.
