Kids Eye Exam

Pediatric eye exams are different than adult exams, and they are important for every child. An optometrist will check different parts of your child’s eyes compared to an adult exam.

It is never too early to make sure your child has the best chance at healthy eyes. Eye care professionals will look for signs during an optometry exam that indicate any number of issues, including strabismus (crossed eyes), amblyopia (lazy eye), and other conditions depending on the age and developmental stage of your child.

During a pediatric optometry visit, we can also detect other vision problems, such as refractive errors and color blindness, which can go undiagnosed if not checked out by a professional.

Why Should Kids Get Eye Exams More Frequently Than Adults?

Typically, adult exams are recommended every two years. But optometrists recommend kids get their first optometry exam at six months old. From there, exams should be performed every year starting around age three or four until the child is 18 years old.

In addition to each of these optometric visits which include a full eye and vision assessment similar to an adult checkup, we include all necessary screenings for pediatric conditions and more.

How Can Eye Exams Help My Child?

Eye exams can help detect many different types of health issues that could arise as well as provide treatments if needed, such as prescription eyeglasses or surgery to help improve your child's vision.

In addition, optometry services can provide relief for conditions such as dry eye syndrome, conjunctivitis (pink eye), and other eye conditions.
